Things to See and Do When Visiting Japan
Things to See and Do When Visiting Japan: Japan is a fascinating destination that perfectly blends ancient tradition with modern innovation. Whether you are traveling for culture, food, history, or adventure, there are countless things to see and do in Japan that will make your trip unforgettable. From bustling cities to serene temples and breathtaking natural landscapes, Japan offers experiences that suit every type of traveler.
One of the top things to see in Japan is Tokyo, the nation’s vibrant capital. Tokyo is famous for its dazzling skyline, historic shrines, and bustling neighborhoods like Shibuya and Shinjuku. Don’t miss the Meiji Shrine, a peaceful sanctuary in the heart of the city, or the Tokyo Skytree, offering panoramic views of the city below. Tokyo is also a haven for food lovers. Be sure to try sushi at the Tsukiji Outer Market or sample street food at Harajuku.
Kyoto, known as Japan’s cultural heart, is another must-visit destination. Here, travelers can explore more than a thousand years of history through its ancient temples, Zen gardens, and traditional tea houses. Don’t miss the iconic Fushimi Inari Shrine, with its thousands of red torii gates, or the Kinkaku-ji, the famous Golden Pavilion. Kyoto is also ideal for experiencing Japanese culture, including kimono rentals and traditional tea ceremonies.
For nature lovers, Japan offers spectacular landscapes. Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, is a top attraction for both climbers and photographers. The surrounding Fuji Five Lakes region provides incredible hiking trails and serene spots for relaxation. In spring, the country comes alive with the famous cherry blossom season, making locations like Ueno Park in Tokyo and Maruyama Park in Kyoto perfect for sakura viewing.
Food is an essential part of the Japanese experience. Osaka, often called the “kitchen of Japan,” is famous for street food such as takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes). In addition, visiting Hiroshima allows travelers to learn about history while trying the city’s renowned Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki.
Don’t forget to explore traditional villages such as Takayama or Shirakawa-go, where you can see historic architecture and experience rural Japan. For adventure, try skiing in Hokkaido or relaxing in Japanese hot springs (onsen) across the country.

This is the best tour on the east coast! It was amazing how many places we visited and what great memories we made!
This was not our first time going to here. It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
We always stay at here when in town. The location is great, staff is wonderful and we love the overall feel. Beautiful view from the here.
